If your Samsung Smart Remote stops responding, some buttons stop working or its connection with your Samsung TV becomes unreliable, resetting the remote may help resolve the issue. Start with a basic reset, which should preserve your remote's Bluetooth pairing information. If the problem persists, try a factory reset, which clears the pairing information and requires you to pair the remote with your TV again. Follow the instructions below to perform either reset and reconnect your remote if necessary.

Note: This guide applies to Samsung Smart Remotes sold in Canada. The appearance and layout of the buttons may vary depending on your remote model, so your remote may look different from the illustrations provided. Some features and functions may also vary by model.

If your Samsung Smart Remote stops responding, certain buttons stop working or its connection with your Samsung TV becomes unreliable, a basic reset may help restore its normal operation. To perform a basic reset, press and hold the Enter button (in the centre of the circular navigation pad) and the Return button simultaneously for 10 seconds, as shown in the illustration below.

Note: Your remote's Bluetooth pairing information should be preserved during a basic reset. However, if your remote does not reconnect to your TV afterward, follow the instructions in the Pair your Samsung Smart Remote with your TV section below.

If a basic reset does not restore your Samsung Smart Remote's normal operation, you can try a factory reset. To perform a factory reset, press and hold the Return button and the button above and to the right of the Enter button simultaneously for 3 seconds, as shown in the illustration below. Depending on your remote model, this button may have a different symbol.

Note:

  • Depending on your remote model, there may be only 2 buttons above the circular navigation pad instead of the 3 buttons shown in the illustration. In either case, use the button on the right.
  • A factory reset clears your remote's Bluetooth pairing information. You will need to pair your remote with your TV again afterward. Follow the instructions in the Pair your Samsung Smart Remote with your TV section below.

Important notice: Before pairing your Samsung Smart Remote with your TV, turn off your TV and then turn it back on using the power button on the TV itself. Depending on your TV model, this button is typically located on the lower right-hand side or at the bottom centre of the TV. This helps ensure that your TV is ready to detect the remote.

After performing a factory reset, you will need to pair your Samsung Smart Remote with your Samsung TV again. First, turn on your TV and point the remote toward it. Then, press and hold the Return button and the Play/Pause button simultaneously for at least 3 seconds, as shown in the illustration below.

A message should appear on your TV screen when the pairing is complete.
